Brief
Project Proposal 31/01/25
CONCEPT – What is your idea? This is can be very broad or quite specific. But give information about the work you plan to produce. Max. 300 words
The concept behind this project is to create a series of images and storylines that will weave together to convey the bigger picture. Each series of images will create a sensation of watching someone in a dream or film, Where reality blurs with people personal thoughts. I want to explore a euphoric, misty and dreamy aesthetic that will bring vibrant colours to life. Hopefully draws viewers in.
Every image will be shot in a landscape format to enhance the cinematic quality I aim to achieve. The main aim of this project is to develop my technique and style. Being very playful with lighting, color, camrea settings and composition will be the essence of this project.
The series of storylines will no have any words just allow the images to tell the story. I plan to have a minimum of 3 storylines each with there own unique styles, lighting and the person involved. Inviting each person to interpret the series of images
CONTEXT – What is the background to your idea? Discuss with reference to key ideas, themes, or theories and include examples of media, artwork photographers, practitioners, theorists, etc. relevant to your project and genre. Max. 500 words.
The context / background to this project is inspired from several key ideas and themes within photography. The exploration of dreams, emotions, and the subconscious. The concept of blurring the lines between reality and personal thoughts. By using vibrant colours and lighting to create visually striking compositions.
The theme of using cinematic imagery, allowing for personal interpretation that will develop. Using techniques commonly found in film, such as framing, lighting, and composition. This approach encourages viewers to immerse themselves into their own emotions and feelings. The photographer Ian Howorth has a approach that adoptes the use of cinematic imagery. By employing techniques such as framing, lighting, and composition.
Another photographer that may influence this work is René Magritte due to the way he layouts the ideas of what I happening and let's the viewer question the ture reality of what is the meaning behind his work.
Another influential theme is the exploration of memory and personal experience. The work of Gregory Crewdson showcasing the profound staging of the scenes within his work. Developing into a narrative that brings mystery. Again with his cinematic approach captures moments that feel both real and surreal. This aligns will my goal of creating a series of images that weave together to tell a bigger picture.
By playing around with the aesthetic of euphoria, reality and dreaminess. The level of planning that will go into each and every image involved will have a deeper meaning with this it can develop into that personal perspective of the viewer. Grabbing and pulling on the mystery, narrative, beauty of the series. The importance of critically thinking about everything shot. And the use of landscape format in my images is inspired by cinematic storytelling. Thinking more about how to layout the room like it's a movie set will push me to really take a step outside of the box. To capture the bigger picture involved in the set, composition of each and every shot.
This project blends different influences to create a visual experience that goes beyond words, encouraging viewers to connect with their own interpretations. By focusing on the relationship between dreams, emotions, and personal experiences, I aim to produce a series of images with a euphoric and dreamy aesthetic. My goal is for these images to resonate deeply and inspire reflection.

PROCESS – Outline the methods, techniques, or strategies you will undertake to complete your project. Avoid specific technical aspects unless directly relevant to the output.

To complete my project, I will follow a process of methods that focus on the overall creative process rather than specific details.
Firstly, I will look to research from various of sources, including film, art, photographers and technical aspects of the project. This will help me shape the vision of my imagery.
Next, I will brainstorm concepts and ideas for each series/ storylines, looking into how to convey feelings and experiences. This may involve creating mood boards to achieve the visuals that I plan to achieve.
Then, I will the composition of each and every image involved in each series. How to arrange elements in a way that will weave together and create a memorable experience for the viewer.
Once I have a clear plan, I will begin the creation process, where the visual imagery. I believe my experimental methods. I will focus on capturing moments that evoke a strong sense of euphoria and dreaminess of the classic cinematic storytelling.
Throughout the project, I will seek feedback from peers and teachers to refine my work. Finally I will develop a series of images that will develop into a narrative kind of photography.
SKILLS NEEDED
What skills and/or techniques do you feel you need to enable you to create your work?
Firstly, I need strong visual storytelling skills to convey emotions and themes through imagery. This fully understanding composition, color theory, and lighting to create a visual experience.
Secondly, I will brainstorm concepts ideas. Allowing me to explore this project and my own personal development of my own photography style. This involves creative thinking and the ability to connect different influences meaningfully.
Additionally, I would benefit from technical skills in photography, depending on the medium I choose. Using editing software like light room that can also help me refine my images and achieve the desired look.
Lastly, I need to improve my ability to receive and incorporate feedback from others, as this will help me refine my work and ensure it resonates with viewers.

IAN HOWORTH
He is a photographer from Brighton. the nice thing about his style is that he builds a series of images that work together like a translon in a film. the style is very cinematic and yet he dosent use narrative to develop. the images work together to set of a feel of nostalgia. When looking into his images i enjoy the fresh perspective and creativity to his projects. He uses a blend of different styles and ideas. The style he holds is a mic of strong colours and attraction to detail.

Composition
Composition is super important. It’s all about how you frame your shots to tell a story.
Like, using the rule of thirds can really help. You split the frame into a grid and place your subject along those lines. It makes the shot more balanced and interesting. Then there are leading lines, which are great for guiding the viewer's eye right to what you want them to focus on.
Framing your subject with elements around it can add depth too. And don’t forget about symmetry, leading lines and patterns! They can create some seriously cool vibes.

Lighting
Lighting is very important for getting that cinematic style. It can completely change the mood.
Natural light, especially during golden hour, can give a warm, dreamy feeling. On the other hand, using dramatic shadows or harsh lighting can create tension and add depth.
Also, think about backlighting. It can create a nice effect around the subject. Playing with different light sources and angles can will achieve that cinematic!

Color Grading
By adjusting the colors and contrasts, you can make your images feel warmer, cooler, or even more dramatic.
You can use tools like Lightroom or Photoshop to tweak the saturation, contrast, and shadows. For a cinematic look, a lot of people go for that teal and orange vibe, which adds a contrast and makes the subject stand out.
The way you grade your colors can totally change how people feel when they look at the photos.

Storytelling
Storytelling is everything when it comes to cinematic photography! It’s all about capturing a moment that conveys an emotion or a narrative. Wanting the viewers to feel something or to imagine what’s happening in the scene.
Thinking about the elements in the shot—like the setting, the subject’s expression, and the actions taking place. Each of these can add layers to the story. Sometimes, it’s not just about what you see, but what you don’t see that sparks curiosity.
Using composition, lighting, and color grading together can enhance that storytelling. Framing landscape can add to the movie style.

Test Projects
Today, 12th February
I’ve been going around capturing candy shots of landscapes, really diving into this project I’m working on. I’ve been testing out different presets in Lightroom to add that cinematic style I’ve been dreaming about. It’s fascinating to think about the competition of the frame and how lining things up can create such a powerful image.
I’m focusing on putting everything together and developing a certain style that feels right for this series. It’s important for me to experiment and really develop these skills. I’m learning so much through this process, and it feels great to see my vision come to life!

Concept idea
The idea behind this storyline is basically a girl who gets left on her wedding day. This was ment to be the happiness day of her life, getting left at the altar. Instead of wallowing in sadness, she decided to embrace the moment and gose on a wild night out in her wedding dress.
I wanna showcase the mixer of emotions that's running through her, mind the mix of spontaneity, sadness and embraced. For instance, when she's out dancing or laughing. Then, you can switch to quieter moments where she might pause and think about what happened, showing the sadness creeping in.
By using a landscape format will enhance that cinematic, dreamy vibe i wanna achieve. Each image can flow into the next, creating a visual narrative that pulls viewers in. This way, the series of images will not only tell her story but also evoke a strong emotional response from the audience, and turn of her journey.
