The brief
This 'project" you need to have access and the ability to build and develop the work over the project. Your development will be evidenced through your Reflective Journal documenting shoots, research and reflection along the way. You must produce 20 final images, alongside your images you need to write a 200 word artist statement discussing your project
Ideas
Ideas on how I may capture the everyday and people of the local community.
I have choose to do the docks, this is because I believe I can put a good light on this area. And it gives me the opportunity to explore the history and hopefully highlight the lives of different people.
The Docks
The idea behind this project is the people who inhabit the space of the docks and the calming feeling the docks deliver to people. I plan to do 5 different shoots/ days at the docks. Capturing small details and people.
The title of this project is simple "The Docks". It one place in preston everyone knows and has probably visited at some point. The docks hold a very strong history for the city.
History - The Docks
Preston docks first opened its gates in the year 1892. Being the largest single dock in the country at the time. Preston Docks important cargo of cotton and wood pulp.
Photographers - In The Scene
There are tons of photography that use spaces that are inhabit by history and local people. There are 3 photographer's that have caught my eye.
Tom Woods
Tom highlighting the inhabit people and moments that happen with a bus. This photos capture people and young teens on their travels.
This links to my project due to the factor he has documented. The idea of highlighting real people in a space.
Sam ContiÄ™
Is a American photographer. When Looking into her work there is one book that captures my eyes. This books is called "Deep Springs" where she photographs students and them living there lives inside of this college. This college has a strong history being know as a all male college in the desert of California.
Within her work of capturing the students living out in this ranch/ farming life style being isolated in the middle of nowhere.
The great thing The great thing about this book is that she doesn't just highlight students. She also highlights the environment of what these students live in and learn. Showcasing the landscapes, the manual labour and the farming all students experience.

Artist Statement
The Docks is a project that highlights everyday things and people. What is every day? What's the normality? This project showcase the identity of a location. What this location holds is history, landscape and a place for memories to be made. The use of black and white photography is to bring more emotion out of this location. The great thing about this series of images. Is it shows the boat yard, the lock/harbour and the local people. Questioning the reality of this place on its good days and bad. You are guaranteed to bump into someone on their walk and possibly have a great conversation with a stranger.
I want you to pull out details of each photograph. How may it link to you? The people of Preston knows the docks every well its important to the this hidden city to hold its history. An this really was great to use a camrea to pull on the history that this holds and how we use this place as a part of our day to day. The local people and the brench looking out to the sea brings a sense of calms and peace to anyone who wants to get away from the busy city.
For this project I want it to be simple to understand and veiw. The Docks.....
